Cherry Reds 03:03
I'm digging a tunnel Down to a village in China Will you come with me? Writing a story out of "maybe if we try…" I'm building a tower to the sky Floating in space we see it spread below And surely it's better than the things we've come to know There must be more to this I know Something inside is changing Let's pull on our Cherry Reds And go outside to play While we're young Making a game of the usual ways Shaking us out of the daze I'm chasing the rabbit Down to a wonderful place And will you come with me? Entirely bonkers? Yes, we'll be the best there are Sick of the old familiar face Looking to find a trace of something new And you helped me believe This could come true There must be more to this I know Something inside is changing Let's pull on our Cherry Reds And go outside to play There must be more to this I know Something inside is changing Let's pull on our Cherry Reds And go outside to play Today...

Paper Man 03:09
Paper man Bending at the creases Feel my body torn to pieces By the hands of time Sorry man Indecisive at the face of it I'm looking for a trace of my own mind Can you see me? A feather on a wind of constant change Blowing to the left and to the right of what is right for me My darling, if I seem a little strange... Know that I just couldn't find I couldn't find a better way to say I'm lost most every day But I don't mind With you I don't need signs to find my way Looking for the answer To the question of the mess I'm in You talk to me and things don't seem so bad This paper man Bending at the creases But you sellotaped the pieces back again Can you see me? Sitting in a boat upon the sea Angry crashing waves They carry me a thousand miles away But with you I can face uncertainty And I just couldn't find I couldn't find a better way to say I'm lost most every day But I don't mind With you I don't need signs to find my way And I don't need to say I love you In a million clever ways When you see it every day In how you give me strength to stand This fragile paper man You give me strength to stand This fragile paper man

Empress Grey 03:40
Feeling kind of distant lately All their customs seem so alien to me Do you feel a change in pressure Around this place? Looking to space for a sign from home Seek to strive What does it take to survive? Cup of something in the winter Warming comfort while it's raining outside Something stirs within the water and sets us free This energy Vow before Empress Grey Steaming at the veil Words could only fail us If we left it there But this could be the fight of our lives And we should do anything Rise above everything That stands in our way Seek to strive What does it take to survive? I know we could thrive on the outside Every house becomes a landfill (Every house becomes a landfill) Every home becomes a memory in time (Every home a memory) Every vessel shows up empty upon these shores There must be more Vow before Empress Grey Steaming at the veil Words could only fail us If we left it there But this could be the fight of our lives And we should do anything Rise above everything That stands in our way

Hedge Maze 03:42
Carnival nightmares The painted face of a clown Before the city broke me down Oh yes, the city broke me down I came back home to rest my laurels In a one horse town Trying to forget And then your cart rolled back around Given time any wound can heal But the ones in the back of your mind Growing vines out in the summer sun Many days caught in a hedge maze garden My darling I'll see you there You and I, so long as we're together We're gonna get out of this place Painful stories The pummelling of pouring rain In the storms you overcame The storms you overcame You went back home But you never kept your mail address the same The wind will guide your train For that I love you Given time any wound can heal But the ones in the back of your mind Growing vines out in the summer sun Many days caught in a hedge maze garden My darling I'll see you there You and I, so long as we're together We're gonna get out of this place We're gonna get out of this place In the summer sun Don't forget the things you've done Don't forget that you're the one Who made it out this far Hacking away at the walls The leaves will eventually fall Revealing the rest of the world You made it out You made it after all Sha la la la la la la la Sha la la la la

This summer fruit A name and a number These growing pains are growing out of hand I wish you were around And where I tread A dandelion blowing seeds in my head Reeds on the bed of a river What's mine is yours And all this pain will run it's course You give me a reason And so I will fight Invite all our demons To feast at the table tonight Little book A map of the village These phantom limbs Are getting good at climbing up the stairs It's getting dark And in the shed Is something we prepared A plan we shared one morning What's mine is yours And all this pain will run it's course You give me a reason And so I will fight Invite all our demons To feast at the table tonight To feast at the table tonight Did you know you're my counterpart? My lighter half when half my world is grey What can I say? I'm optimistic I never thought I'd ever feel this way What's mine is yours And all this pain will run it's course You give me a reason And so I will fight Invite all our demons To feast at the table tonight What's mine is yours Give it all to me Don't hold back now Twenty horses couldn't drag me Down a different path Give me all to me Don't hold back now Twenty horses couldn't drag me Down a different path my love What's mine is yours And all this pain will run it's course You give me a reason And so I will fight Invite all our demons We'll travel the world together If the universe lies in heart of your eyes we will fly So take a hold of my hand And I'll take all your pain You'll never have to wander alone

Carolina Wren Hiding in the garden Birdsong for the friends who never left Whilst here or there You never saw a difference And I doubt you even care That was me We've all sung songs of love But the sparrow and the dove Tell very different stories in the end Carolina Wren Home is where the heart is Start over again, you never left Those foreign coasts The martins have their secrets I envy them the most This won't be me We've all sung songs of the love But the sparrow and the dove Tell very different stories in the end Don't tell me it's impossible I've heard it from myself Time and time again I won't be like you, Carolina Wren We've all sung songs of love But the sparrow and the dove Tell very different stories in the end

Old man Bill Back at the bar again Drinking the weight of the world He was born here Back in the 40's Who would have thought That he'd never escape? Life in a cavity We burn, the smoke is a signal We never can return The future is coming now, I know Friend of the family Just got married First of our circle to wed It was strange That none of the guests Were mutual friends Drove it right home That we'd all moved on We burn, the smoke is a signal We never can return The future is coming now, I know And I'm wishing all the best To you, my friends I'll see you all again Our rivers converge by the shore I won't feel afraid anymore Our rivers converge by the shore I won't feel afraid anymore And so I'm catching a train out of eternity I will call you when I have arrived We'll meet again in time We would survive Lizzy and I Taking the world by the storm as before The hurricane's eye Blinked in the night Next thing we were gone And we're far out of sight We burn, the smoke is a signal We never can return A shape on the horizon disappears The future is coming now, I know The message is clear But the bottle is empty Tell me where are you now? When will you read this? And how? The message is clear But the bottle is empty Tell me where are you now? When will you read this? And how?

about

The Wind Will Guide Your Train is the fourth release from Pea Green Boat. It was written and recorded between 2015 and 2016.

In late 2015, Joe and Roger started recording the demos for their next collaborative album.

After releasing their third album, 'Last Astronaut In Space', the two decided to try out a new approach to writing songs.
Unlike on previous albums, which could explore multiple genres, textures and time signatures over the course of just one song, this new album was set to be more sparse and organic in it's arrangements.

Before writing, Joe and Roger agreed that each song should:
a) be playable on one instrument, start to finish
b) contain only one vocal harmony
c) contain no electronic or sample-based imstrumentation

The results are 'The Wind Will Guide Your Train' -Enjoy!
